Wow, this is going to be harder than I thought. After listening to Monday's Rush Limbaugh Show, I think it might be less work to highlight the few times he actually tells the truth. Basically, if this guy is breathing he's lying or at the least just plain wrong.
In a diatribe against gay marriage Monday, Limbaugh had this to say. "This is something that concerns me, because I think freedom is being misapplied or maybe incorrectly defined. Freedom does not mean hedonism. Freedom does not mean the sybaritic pursuits, 'Just do what you want,'"
He then goes on to say how the Left has branded themselves as the party of freedom and liberation even though according to him that's not true.
First things first. It's Limbaugh's assertion that the only reason Democrats support gay marriage is because they are immoral and want to spread their immorality to everyone.
"To young people today, that's exactly what freedom is," Limbaugh said. "Freedom is hedonism. Freedom is sybaritic pursuits"
He adds that it's only a scam to paint the Republican party as oppressors.
Now that I've identified just some of the lies from his rant:
1. Regardless of how Limbaugh paints his picture with such broad strokes, no one can deny that gays are denied the freedom to marry that all other American citizens enjoy. This represents an inequality that must be corrected. This inequality exists and has nothing to do with immorality or hedonsim. Gay people are citizens of the United States of America and should enjoy the same rights guaranteed to everyone else.
2. Being homosexual is not immoral because it isn't a choice. There's tons of confusing science about how much homosexuality is related to genetics, environment and brain development. However, there isn't one scientific study that shows that homosexuals made a choice to be so. And in fact to suggest that homosexuality is a choice is just ludicrous. What person would consciously make a choice to be ostracized discriminated against even in some cases losing their own family as a result.
3. Limbaugh and his audience are only against homosexuality because the Bible is against homosexuality. But the Bible is also against divorce and Limbaugh the great moralist has been married four times. Now if you have any experience with the Bible, what that means is that according to the Bible, Limbaugh is an adulterer. And adulterers will suffer the same punishments in hell prescribed for homosexuals. In other words, Limbaugh is a raging hypocrit as is anyone who would use the Bible to deny homosexuals the right to marry.
4. The Republican Party brought America the Patriot Act, warrantless wire taps and Homeland Security. They introduced American's to having their library card records, their email and their phone records snooped through by federal agents. No matter how much Limbaugh denies it, the Republican Party are the oppressors.
